A Perfect Day..

Just a perfect day
drink Sangria in the park
And then later
when it gets dark, we go home

Just a perfect day
feed animals in the zoo
Then later
a movie, too, and then home

Oh, it's such a perfect day
I'm glad I spend it with you
Oh, such a perfect day
You just keep me hanging on
You just keep me hanging on

Just a perfect day
problems all left alone
Weekenders on our own
it's such fun

Just a perfect day
you made me forget myself
I thought I was
someone else, someone good

Oh, it's such a perfect day
I'm glad I spent it with you
Oh, such a perfect day
You just keep me hanging on
You just keep me hanging on

You're going to reap just what you sow
You're going to reap just what you sow
You're going to reap just what you sow
You're going to reap just what you sow

Self Pity

Self pity is easily the most destructive of the non-pharmaceutical narcotics; it is addictive, gives momentary pleasure and separates the victim from reality.”

The Miley Twerk!

I don't be a jerk about the twerk!

Okay.  I really tried to restrain myself.  I really did. I didn't want to add one more voice to the already blown out of proportion chorus chiming in on the recent Miley Cyrus performance.  And I don't like to rant. And I realize that it's quite likely that not one single person cares what I'm thinking about it.  But for some reason I feel compelled to share it anyway :). Here are 3 pieces of my mind on the topic.

1.  Miley Cyrus's performance was on the VMA's.  That's the MTV Video Music Awards.  Ya'll. Really?  MTV was racy in the early 90's.  It has grown exponentially more racy over the last 10 years. If you sat down to watch the VMA's on Sunday night, I'm not standing in judgement of that decision.  If you sat down to watch the VMA's on Sunday night expecting Laura Ingall's to walk out on stage in her smocked dress and play the harmonica with her Pa - I might be judging your concept of reality just a touch.  And if you were watching it with your children, please just be willing to take responsibility for what they saw.  Don't blame Miley or MTV.  They only have the influence over your children that you hand over to them.

2.  I'm sort of over all of the whining being done by parents who are furious that their daughter's former idol, Hannah Montana, has become something less worthy of their worship.  Please stop whining and start using this as an opportunity to explain the concept of idolatry to your children and then drive home the truth that only One is worthy of our worship, obsession, and undying devotion.  Only One.  And this does not come from a place of judgement.

3.  Several of the articles I read were expressing disdain that Miley's father, Billy Ray, tweeted this after her performance sparked a lot of negativity on twitter: "Thanking God for so many blessings tonight. Continue to pray for world peace. More love ... less hate."  He later claimed that his tweet wasn't in reaction to his daughter's performance.  But for me, that's neither here nor there, as I'm more surprised by people's reaction to his reaction.  People seemed surprised and accused him of being supportive and approving of her behavior based on that tweet.  People assumed that he is just resigned to the fact that this is who his daughter is and that he can't tame her.
